Hello. This is the second section of the This Week In Doctor Who column.
Beginning today, the listings for Central/South America, Canada, and national US
networks are moved back into section 1 - the section just listed as This Week In
Doctor Who. This section is now called PBS and Podcasts because it covers all
the public TV airings of Doctor Who, and I've moved the podcasts over here. This
Week In Doctor Who Spinoffs has the Sarah Jane schedules, the K9 series
schedules (once it starts), and the stations with rights to Doctor Who that
aren't airing it at the moment. Torchwood This Week stays the same.
USA - Doctor Who - Series 3 (The Runaway Bride and the 13 episode 2007 series
with Freema Agyeman as Martha Jones) are now distributed to Public TV stations
by BBC Worldwide Americas, not American Public TV. Series 4 also seems to be
available to buy - start date for Series 4 on Public TV stations is unknown. BBC
Worldwide Americas also distributes classic Doctor Who to stations.
Eagle eyed viewers have spotted that WTTW is no longer airing the Doctor Who Confidential episodes. This stopped "a few weeks ago", so I wonder if they just did not buy the Confidentials for Series 3.
There have also been reports of new Who airing on PBS in the Denver, CO area. I checked both Rocky Mountain PBS http://www.rmpbs.org and KBDI 12 http://www.kbdi.org and found nothing bar references on RMPBS' site to when they aired Series 1 the one time in Summer 2007. The syndicator for Series 3 of Who did not put out a station list that got to me this year - we only know which stations have Doctor Who when one of them blabs about it or it appears on the schedule. I periodically check as many of the 300 or so PBS stations as I can to see if somebody picked the show up without fandom noticing, but that takes a while and stuff can be missed, given the volume of stations.
If you're a PBS station airing Doctor Who and I don't have you listed - contact
me. If you're watching Doctor Who on a PBS station that's not on this list -
contact me AND tell me the day, time, and episode that aired so I can track
things down (some stations have websites where schedule information is -
lacking).
The public TV stations known to have bought The Runaway Bride and Series 3:
WXXI 21 Rochester, NY
WTTW 11 Chicago, IL (currently in first run)
WGVU/WGVK 35,52 Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI
WILL 12 Urbana, IL
WTVP 47 Peoria, IL
Iowa Public TV
Idaho Public TV
Wisconsin Public TV (currently in first run)
Milwaukee Public TV
KUED 7 Salt Lake City, UT
OETA Oklahoma
KLRU 18 Austin, TX
Alaska Public TV
WSKG/WSKA 46,30 Binghamton/Elmira, NY (currently in first run)
KERA 13 Dallas, TX (currently in first run)
Now, I am confident that there are more stations with rights to Series 3 than
that. But these are the stations who have contacted me or scheduled the show.
Unlike previous years, we are in the dark till a station comes forward or new
Who appears in their schedules.
Series 2 is currently available to public TV stations in an American Public TV
package until March 31, 2010. For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have
bought the rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required
to do so. American Public TV is no longer offering Series 1 - I do not know if
BBC Worldwide Americas will offer those stations to public TV stations now or
not.
2 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run
(1963-1989), but not New Who. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA is airing Peter Davison
episodes. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is airing Tom Baker episodes.
And now, the listings:

1) Home to the longest continuously running weekly-ish international Doctor Who
chat show done in podcast format. Hosted by Louis Trapani, Ken Deep, and James
Naughton, with frequent contributions/co-hosting by Dave AC, Mike Doran, and a
cast of many. There is a feed for studio shows and a feed for live shows.
2) Also home to the Sonic Newsdriver, Louis Trapani's periodic rundown of new
Doctor Who news.
3) Also home to the Hitch-hiker's Guide To British Sci-Fi, a podcast covering a
mix of shows, including Doctor Who.
Current episode:
-Podshock Episode 160 - Two(!) guests this time as Dominic Glynn (1980s Doctor
Who music composer) and Danny Stewart (rapidly rising music composer) do a joint
interview. Also, the Regeneration story reviews continue with Spearhead From
Space. Spearhead - the first colour story, the only story shot entirely on 16mm
film (no, not 35 - 16), intro to a new Doctor and the next 5 crazy years. The
latest convention updates, and more.
Radio Free Skaro http://www.radiofreeskaro.com
The 3 Canadians (Warren, Steven, Chris) get together on the weekends for about
an hour or more to discuss the latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane
in a fairly amusing manner. When one is away, the 4th Canadian (Katrina) will
play. Or will she - Katrina and her friend Nat have launched a spinoff podcast
called "Bridging The Rift".
Current Episodes:
155 - "Holmesian Triple Act" - Part 3 of the Robert Holmes' review happens, and
after that they set the Randomizer to decide who to look at next. More Jon
Pertwee stories are coming out on DVD, creating mild interest. Sarah Jane Series
3 is on the way (mind you, it has not aired in the US, Canada, or New Zealand
yet - New Zealand never even got Series 1). And it's come to this - a Doctor Who
clip show on BBC Three.
Coming Soon:
Episode 156 "TARGET Complete" - Radio Free Skaro now has as many podcasts as the
TARGET book range had numbered titles. The final TARGET book was "The Pescatons"
even though it wasn't a TV story. In classic Who TV terms, this episode would be
Battlefield, the 156th story before somebody tried to retroactively change it
this year for (rest of sentence excised). To mark this point in Who history,
Radio Free Skaro is going to look at a Doctor Who writer and editor. His last
name begins with A. Now, you could just listen to episode 155 to find out which
writer it is, or you can try to guess. Meanwhile, BBC Kids is about to air
classic Who again, its siren call trying to lure the RFS Superfiends back to
watching television.
DWO Whocast http://www.thewhocast.com
Trevor from Australia and Marty from the UK talk Doctor Who with themselves,
others, and teddy bears dressed as doctors. Now with a rock version of the
opening theme, the Whocast continues to ask the questions that pop in to their
heads. Regular correspondent - James. Frequent guest - Michael of the Tin Dog
podcast.
Current episode:
#132. The man, the legend, the Jon Pertwee! An episode focusing on the 3rd
Doctor, the first guy in colour, the one who has a Navy Lark that BBC Radio 7
likes to repeat a lot. Listen in, or Jon will turn up at your house with a
bottle of brandy, two glasses, and an eyepatch story you've already heard. Note
- while the episode is dated 26 August, it did not show up on my iTunes until
late on 28 August, so it is in my list of shows to hear soon.
Tin Dog Podcast http://www.tin-dog.co.uk
UK based podcast looking at the latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood, or Sarah Jane
Adventures. New episodes ever 2 weeks or so.
Current episode:
#98 - Enlightenment. One of Michael's favourite stories gets the DVD treatment.
Even an alternate version is included. And Michael announces that he will do a
podcast on The Prisoner. While The Prisoner isn't really the area of this
column, I'll certainly mention it again when Michael starts it up and we have a
name.

hosting duties with episode 101. Chats open 15 minutes before the scheduled
start time.
Current episode - 100. Dave AC and Ian retire as the regular guest hosts. Final
episodes of TV shows are discussed. And could we have celebrity guest
appearances?
Next Episode - Sunday 2PM EDT/7PM BST/11AM PDT - 101. New Beginnings. West and
CIA are back! Live! Late breaking!

Dave AC and Ian have guest hosted CIA so much that they developed a taste for
doing it themselves. So they are launching their own show starting Sunday 2
August. Now the two shows will be side by side, one after the other for twice
the chatting on twice the topics. Chats open 15 minutes before the scheduled
start time.
Current episode:
4. I Am The Doctor ... Doctor Who is the focus of an episode. Every so often, a
new actor starts to play the Doctor as the old one leaves. This affects us all
in different ways. How did it affect the folks who turned up for the live show.
Find out, in the longest Cultdom Collective yet - 2 hours, 47 minutes, and some
seconds.
Upcoming episode:
Sunday 3:30PM EDT/12:30PM PDT/8:30PM BST - Would You Like Some Comedy In Your
Sci-Fi? A live look at humor in Science Fiction. The Cultdom In Audio and
Cultdom Collective callers heavily overlap, so expect lots of cheers and chatter
about how CIA's relaunch went earlier that day.
6 September 3:30PM EDT/12:30PM PDT/8:30PM BST - Would You Like Some Sci-Fi In
Your Comedy? The other side of the coin.
Two Minute Time Lord http://twominutetimelord.com
A bite-sized commentary and revew show. Host Chip's interest was rekindled by
the 2005 revival. He believes in balancing old fandom and new viewers, respect
for the past and breaking the rules. He tries to keep his pontifications to 120
seconds, because we're ALL in a hurry these days.
Current Episode:
#57 - Toby Hadoke and the Future of "Moths". Comedian and Doctor Who commentary
moderator Toby Hadoke spoke with Chip. This time, the edited version to match
the 2 minute theme. Coming soon - a longer (15 minute) cut of the interview with
the writer and star of the acclaimed play "Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf".
Staggering Stories http://www.staggeringstories.net
A wild, wandering podcast with Doctor Who and the other flavours of the moment
winding together roughly once every 2 weeks. The website's main focus is on
stories collected through the years.
Current:
Episode 52 - "The Dwarf Is Green". The original run of Red Dwarf on the BBC was
52 episodes. In memoriam of this largely forgotten bit of trivia, the 52nd
Staggering Stories will take a closer look at Series 1 of the Dwarf. Lots of
other stuff happens as well, but they seem very happy to look at the history of
one of the UK's best sci-fi comedies. Also, evidence that Mr. Dalek may be
alive!
Episode 53 - "Insert Title Here" - A brand new episode with 4 of the 5
panelists, due out Sunday-ish.
The Flashing Blade Podcast http://www.flashingblade.org.uk
Tony Gallichan returns to podcast land with new podcaster Jo! to look at Doctor
Who and matters of interest. Tony grew up with UK fandom and knows all the
cliches. Jo! - didn't. Flashing Blade wants to be known as the podcast that
would like a nice cup of tea.
Current episode:
12. The Company Of Friends and Ghostlight get reviewed. Two new cats bring
chaotic order back into Tony's life. Sweltering heat (must have passed 70
Fahrenheit) plagues the hosts. The feedback monster strikes again.
Coming Soon:
13 - Audio "The Kingmaker" and the 25 minute episode known as "An Unearthly
Child" get reviewed. Not the full 4 episodes produced as one story that is now
known as An Unearthly Child. Just the episode with the title on it. I think
that's a tad unfair on the other 3 episodes, but I'm not paying for their
bandwidth or producing the show, so it's not my call.
Bridging The Rift http://bridgingtherift.wordpress.com
Katrina (Radio Free Skaro) and Nat launch a new show bringing the worlds of
Doctor Who fandom, Torchwood fandom, Sarah Jane Adventures fandom, K9 fandom,
and other areas together. Each week - a special guest co-host.
4. Russell T Davies and Fandom. Kate Orman is the guest co-host as our gang look
at the impact of Russell T Davies. How has his vision shaped Doctor Who? Are we
ever satisfied with anything? Very extended length installment.
Episode 5 was not out at press time, but expected soon.
The Minute Doctor Who Podcast
http://web.mac.com/backintheussr6/The_Minute_Doctor_Who_Podcast/Podcast/Podcast.\
html

Video (sometimes just audio) podcast looking at Doctor Who projects. Episodes
are usually under 5 minutes long.
Current episode:
21 - We Love The NHS. Luke explores the UK's National Health Service in Doctor
Who related terms.
Doctor Who Review Today http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/22756
call in number (724) 444-7444 talkshoe id 22756
Live editions Late Fridays 1AM EDT/10PM PDT/6AM BST every couple of weeks
Robert Carrie King reviews Doctor Who topics (DVDs and news, mostly) on this
Talkshoe program. Frequent cast member on CIA: Cultdom In Audio.
Most recent episode - Episode 42. Attack Of The Cybermen and a second attempt at
Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday. Robert and everyone else who turns up (not had time to
hear this episode yet, so don't know this week's cast) talk about 2 Cybermen
stories. One story was full of plot twists tying together popular fan theories
and fan fiction, setting up unlikely returns and making the Doctor look at
someone in a different light. And the other was Attack Of The Cybermen. Any
classic series fans probably just groaned. Apologies. Actually, BOTH stories do
all those things. But Army Of Ghosts/Doomsday is much more popular than Attack
Of The Cybermen, and hopefully this episode explored that issue.
The Tennantcast http://tennantcast.com
Kelsey, Kari, Flossie, and friends get together to dish on the latest David
Tennant news.
15 - Tennant Jai Ho. This episode has literally just downloaded as I am writing.
The guest - Meleena. Much hilarity ensues, I gather, and a song written about
David Tennant for Meleena's birthday provides the closing.
The Wailing Fangirl http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/22228
Samantha (Romana 2) explores Doctor Who and fandom in Australia, sometimes with
the aid of the ladies of the Gallifreyan Time Love Brigade. Frequent cast member
on CIA: Cultdom In Audio.
Current episode:
12. The gang look at Doctor 11 and Amy Pond's fashion style. Comic-Con reactions
are covered. And a second look at Torchwood: Children Of Earth after a month of
reflection.
A Podcast Of Impossible Things http://podcastofimpossiblethings.blogspot.com
Cardiff-based Doctor Who fans get together to discuss the latest Doctor Who and
do a full length commentary on new Doctor Who episodes.
Current episodes:
Full length commentaries on Torchwood: Children Of Earth episode 1 and
Torchwood: Children Of Earth episode 5.
Bigger On The Inside http://www.earth-2.net
Mike and Dan decide to do their own podcast exploring each Doctor Who story in
broadcast order. It is a very different style from Jonathan's. Again - can they
pull it off? Part of the Earth-2 family of podcasts. Warning - explicit language
(swearing). If your headphones leak any sound at all - do not listen at work.
Current episode - 20. The Moonbase and The Macra Terror. Doctor Who meets
Cybermen and Killer Krabs. The hosts explore these 2 early Troughton stories.
Note to the hosts, as I think one of you reads the column - all the missing
stories are out on CD. The audio is cleaned up dramatically and the CDs have
narration that helps a lot. You may want to just buy the audios and play them
while your telesnap reconstructions are running on the TV (and mute the TV's
sound). These stories are so much better when you can hear what is being said,
and on the CDs - you usually can.
Hoo On Who http://hooonwho.com
Fan reviews of recent Doctor Who DVDs by David Hooie, frequently with a guest
co-host.
Current episode:
#13. Planet Of The Dead - Blu-Ray Release. David listens to the most recent
Doctor Who story, the first one released on the Blu-Ray format. While all Doctor
Who could be released on Blu-Ray if people wanted to, this was the first story
filmed in HD, and therefore the first one where you would see noticable quality
improvements (you could fit more classic episodes on a Blu-Ray and more extras
and have less compression, but it won't radically change the picture/sound
quality of the source material). So, how did the BBC do on their first Doctor
Who Blu-Ray release. Opinion - mixed.
The Cloister Room http://thecloisterroom.com
Tom Dickinson begins a solo Doctor Who podcast effort with short shows on short
subject that get to the point, bulldoze through the point, back up to ground the
point down some more, then flee the scene before the police arrive.
Current episode - 3. "Man, Oh Mandalorian!" Tom looks at the canon debates in
Doctor Who and Star Wars. He prefers Doctor Who's approach to canon..
Tim's Take On ...
Tim Drury's podcast on various issues. Still checking it out at press time.
Available on iTunes.
The Big Finish Podcast http://www.bigfinish.com/podcast
Big Finish podcasts at least once a month to discuss their Doctor Who and other
projects (Sapphire and Steel, Stargate (!), Dark Shadows, Bernice Summerfield,
etc).
Current episode - Rob Shearman special. Instead of doing an August episode, Nick
Briggs parties with Rob and inserts what news updates there are in when the
conversation slows a tad. Rob's short story work with Big Finish dominates the
discussion, but he has a past with the company going back to its early audios.
While Rob has been on podcasts before, this may be the first time that his name
wound up in the episode title, and that counts for something.
Tachyon TV http://www.tachyon-tv.co.uk
Irregular and irreverant podcast looking at the world of Doctor Who with a
funhouse mirror and coming out the other side holding a plush toy that wasn't
really the one you wanted but you'll keep it anyway because you can give it to
your girlfriend to impress her. It's that kind of show.
Current segment - a short appeal by "Rula Lenska".
MMM Commentaries/Fantragic http://www.mmmcommentaries.com
Roving Australian podcasting gang, including Trevor from the DWO Whocast.
Commentaries on Doctor Who episodes, Star Wars films, some Stargate stuff, and
others. The Frantragic episodes look at Doctor Who and other sci-fi news.
Fantragic episodes are on a different iTunes feed from MMM Commentary episodes.
Current Doctor Who episode - Journey's End. If the description in the iTunes tag
is anything to go by, this running commentary on the Doctor Who Series 4 finale
will not have a happy ending..

Jim Iaccino and Kenn Gold look at the latest SciFi broadcasts in the US, with
emphasis on fitting in Doctor Who, Dollhouse, Smallville, Supernatural, Fringe,
Torchwood, and the other big scifi shows of the moment. Everything is based on
US premiere dates rather than UK. Approximately 90 minutes per episode. Show
airs live with a text chat and can be downloaded later.
Next episode - Late Sunday Midnight EDT/9PM PDT/Monday 5AM BST
TV Talk Radio http://blogtalkradio.com/shaunomacradio
Weeknights 6 to 8PM EDT (3 to 5PM PDT) [Friday 7PM EDT/4PM PDT]

covering all things TV. Doctor Who is sometimes discussed in the 2nd hour of the
Friday show with Two Doctors co-host Kenn Gold. Listen and chat live through the
website with archives appearing right after the show finishes.
Thanks for reading. Until next week, take care.
